"The Great List of Things I Can’t Do Because I Only Have Daughters"

The Great List of Things I Can’t Do Because I Only Have Daughters On Huffington Post

1. Get peed on by a penis while changing a diaper.

2. Say, “Hi son, how did you sleep?” without causing confusion.

The list was coming along pretty good. I had two really good examples and I was thinking about how a third kid, a boy, would change my life. But that was as far as I got. The rest of the list looked like:

3. Play baseball. I CAN DO THAT.

4. Play hockey. I CAN DO THAT TOO.

5. Sit on the couch watching Spider-Man cartoons. I’VE DONE THIS EIGHT TIMES ALREADY.

6. Wear blue clothes. BLUE IS OUR FAVORITE COLOR.

7. Be happier than I’ve ever been in my life. THIS IS HAPPENING NOW.

8. Buy toys from the blue section of a toy store. WE’RE VERY SNEAKY.

9. Play with toy cars. PLANES TOO!

10. Raise someone I can consider my friend and one day have a beer with. CAN’T WAIT.

What a good dad.

Family. The colorful kind… the best kind.

“It was magical to be able to be free in this nature with this child. She was a very lucky little girl – she was born and raised until the age of 10 totally in the wild.” - Sylvie Robert, mother of Tippi

Tippie, now 23, is the only child born to wildlife photographers Sylvie Robert and Alain Degre. The little girl saw nothing unusual about her company: “I don’t have friends here. Because I never see children. So the animals are my friends,” she once said.

3 y/o Doesn't Like Ice: Parenting SKILLS

  • Brooklyn: Dad, I don't like ice!
  • Tim: You'll get over it.
  • Brooklyn: But… I don't like ice! There's ice in my cup!
  • Tim: Drink around it, it'll be fine.

Don’t marry a man unless you would be proud to have a son just like him.

Many words come to mind when I think of my mother. Love and Sass are the top two. She is on of the sassiest women I know. She never let men speak down to her, always speaks her mind, and fought for complete independence from a very young age. This photo was taken in 1956, my mother was about 2 years old and already full of personality. About 10 years after this photo, she had to get surgery to remove her spleens. That’s right, spleens. She had four, and by age 12 they had cleaned her slightly oddly shaped red blood cells from her blood so “well” that they had to be removed completely. The women in my family all have varying degrees of Hereditary Spherocytosis, my mothers the most intense of all. Her spleens are now on display at the University of Washington.
I love you mom. You’ve gone through hell and back, and you’re still kicking (with extra zing!). Thanks for setting a great example for me, and women everywhere.
